Course Objective

The course aims to provide participants with some useful materials to read, analyse, and understand the history and structure of the museum in his "historic role" and in its contemporary state.

The goal is to equip participants with the knowledge and strategies needed to be able to think about the museum not only as a "closed container" but as a "collective experience" within the integrated promotion of the cultural heritage of the country.

Contact Hours and Location

From Monday to Friday every afternoon from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. for a total of 20 hours.

The course is held at the historic location of Palazzo Ridolfi in Via Maggio 13 in Florence.


Recipients

The course is open to all applicants, Italian and international. Previous experience in the sector is not necessary.

The course is taught in Italian. International applicants should have good knowledge of the language.


Qualification

A Certificate of Attendance is issued to all participants at the end of the course.
Plan
  • Introduction: the purpose of the museum; the quality standards of the museum; museum professions; the national map of ICOM
  • Conservation: concepts of maintenance, preventive conservation and restoration; the causes of deterioration of works of art; introduction to climatology; display cases, microclimate and air conditioning systems; light radiation
  • Storage and handling of works; depositories
  • Permanent exhibitions: the spaces of the museum; museum architecture and use of light; exhibition of the works; anchoring systems for the artwork; walls, windows and climaboxes
  • Communication and enjoyment: corporate image of the museum; services; accessible spaces
  • Temporary exhibitions: conception and design, lending, timing, event communication
  • Issues of planning the museum (as you draw up a museum project: concept, sorting, museum route, museum communication plan, promotion plan)

Enrolment

To enrol on the course students must send the following documents to the Secretariat of Palazzo Spinelli No Profit Association:
  1. Enrolment Form
  2. Amministrative Regulations (signed and dated)
  3. A copy of the payment receipt or bank transfer for the full course fee
  4. A photocopy of an ID document
Students can send the documents by email to info@palazzospinelli.org, by fax (+39 055 217963) or by post. Students are advised to enrol at least two weeks before the course start date. Enrolments are accepted depending on the availability of places on the course.
